I am shocked, shocked to find out that gambling is in cahoots with corrupt politicians

In the classic movie Casablanca Captain Renault deadpans that he is, “shocked, shocked to find out that gambling is going on in here.” The here being Rick’s Cafe. I feel the same way about the latest report tying corrupt New York politicians to the awarding of casino licenses. It is so hard to imagine that in … Continue reading »

The GOP’s pledge to America to continue massive government spending

The GOP released their long-awaited update on 1994′s Contract With America. Clocking in at 21 pages, this one is a bit more wordy than the Newt Gingrich penned Contract. Basically, the party of supposed fiscal conservatism has pledged to Americans that they will continue to run up massive long-term debt by returning government spending to what it was before … Continue reading »

Another member of Congress feels entitled to steal

Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) has agreed to pay back $24,000 in scholarship money that she awarded to her relatives, despite rules prohibiting such nepotism.  She also gave money to the children of a top aide. The monies came from funds donated to the Congressional Black Caucus. Despite being the former chairwoman of the caucus, Johnson denies … Continue reading »

Will the Know Nothings rise again?

In the mid-1850′s, a political party called the “Know Nothings” grew in America. They were also known as the American Party and the Republican American Party. They were fiercely anti-immigration, particularly against the unwashed masses of Catholics arriving on our shores from Germany and Ireland.  They felt that these new groups would owe fealty to the Pope. They … Continue reading »

As I was barreling down the interstate in South Dakota recently I noticed a brand of gas I had never seen before, Casino Gasoline. It seems like every gas station I passed had those two words prominently displayed on their sign. Being a bit slow on the uptake I finally realized that there actually were … Continue reading »

Book review: The War Lovers

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. A nation feeling its oats, let’s call it America, is whipped into a frenzy to start a war based on false information reported in the press. Based on these false reports, this nation decides that it is going to invade a country to liberate its people from … Continue reading »

Why Toyota owes BP a big fat wet one

Remember when the big story on the news was killer Toyotas running amok on the California freeway or crashing into Grandma Marge’s front porch? Yeah, me neither. We’re all too busy watching black gooey stuff pour out of an underwater pipe in the Gulf.  You can count on the perennially ADD media, and by extension the American public, to be … Continue reading »

Arlen Specter hits new low in race against Joe Sestak

Party flipping Senator Arlen Specter (D then R then D again-PA) and author of the “magic bullet” theory in the Kennedy assassination, has set a new standard for slinging mud in his primary race against Congressman Joe Sestak (D-PA).            By way of background, Joe Sestak is a retired Navy admiral who is the highest ranking former military … Continue reading »

The second coming of Eliot Spitzer…has he no shame?

You can’t look anywhere these days without seeing the hawklike profile of disgraced former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer hogging up screen time. Excuse me? Is this the same Eliot Spitzer who had to relinquish his seat and leave New York in the lurch after being caught with a hooker? Isn’t he the guy who selected … Continue reading »
