It seems our friends across the Atlantic have taken notice of plans to build a mosque near Ground Zero in lower Manhattan. Nigel Blite-Lillywistle, spokesman for Prime Minister David Cameron, recently announced, “we feel it is horrendous to allow people who may look like the perpetrators of 9/11 to be permitted to build a terrorism center in New York.” Apparently the protests against the “mosque” voiced by Newt Gingrich and Sarah Palin, in a preview of their 2012 presidential primary battle, have resonated within the halls of the British Parliament.
City planners are busy drawing up maps of all IRA bombings that occurred in London during the “Troubles”. Since these were detonated by the IRA, an Irish terrorist group made up primarily of Catholics, it was decided that the building of any new Catholic churches near the bomb zones would be disrespectful to the victims.
When asked about this, recent convert to Catholicism Newt Gingrich was, for once, speechless.
Update: August 16, 2010
Okay, Newt couldn’t stay quiet for long. Yesterday he compared the lower Manhattan mosque to Nazis holding up signs outside the Holocaust Museum in Washington. With one fell swoop he managed to compare the adherents of a major world religion to Nazism. I wonder if he would use the same broad brush to paint all Catholic priests as pedophiles. One hopes not.
